The 70s in Andy
Let's talk about the 70s, right here in Singapore.
My imagination always brings me to the 70s, where everything is so much happier than in this millenniumery era.
Let's talk about the dressing shall we?
Picture the guys in tight fitting flora shirts with tailor made bell bottom pants. Walking around the streets holding a Pepsi Cola glass bottle, ogling at the ladies with oversize sunshades.
The ladies as usual, pretty in flora, with bright colours to attract the attention from a mile away.
I always like this trend.
In that era, couples are happy with just a trusty bicycle. In this era, If you got a bicycle, your significant other will ask you to jiak sai. We crack our brains and cough up money to maintain the car. COE, ERP, Insurance ..I sneeze and sneeze...
What's wrong with bicycle?
Those days, as long as you are hardworking, you will be rich.
Chow Yuan Fatt once said this to Andy Lau when young Andy just got into the entertainment industry.
Pointing to his Rolex, He said, "Hard work, and you can get anything you want"
Hmmm... Makes sense, simple logic.
But to think about it again, it is not that applicable in this modern era, isn't it?
Taxi Uncle once told me he made $30000 in one single business trip in the 80s.
Now, he just look at his meter, and is contented as long as the meter is working fine by a jump of 20cents.
"Ah di ah, nowadays is different liao.. As long as you don't owe anyone money, you should be glad liao..."
Hmm.. worth a thought... worth a thought..
Right,
Let's go back to the 70s, and why I like to imagine I am in that zone.
I like the music, the oldies Ah go-go music. Light and chirpy, and they are often a 2min song thing. Doesn't make you bore easily huh..

I like the fact that in that era, people work hard and earn peanuts, and they feed their children peanuts, and the kids are happy with the peanuts given.
These days, you earn peanuts, but you have to fork out money to feed your children Macdonalds.
AND, they might not be happy. Because 1 might prefer KFC, the other might prefer Pizza hut.
Ouch.
In that era, I guess the kids goes to school with very little things.
1 pencil and 1 piece of paper, and a book should be enough.
These days,
Err... I am not very sure what kids brings to school these days.
Maybe Guns?
The education system is ahead by 5 steps in this urbanisation cycle.
Those days, I think it should be a 1 step at a time thing.
P is for Peanuts then,
Now P is for pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosisand.
Don't ask me what is that, I have no freaking idea.. but this is what they learn in school now, isn't it?
To buy a house in those days, it cost you around $8000.. Somewhere around Queenstown I believe. Perhaps even better, you can build your own Terrace. Some planks and nails and magically, a shelter is yours. A few chicken and ducks provide you with the necessary eggs and meat. Pink and Rosy Pigs for their wonderful profits they will bring.
Beautiful, Peaceful, I like...
These days, $8000 can fix your 2 toilets in your house.
and Pigs should be kept strictly in your refrigerator.
On a serious note,
Sometimes I really wish I can go back to the 70s.
To look at my Entire family from a 3rd person point of view,
Wondering did my grandmother scold her children(Because she is always so soft spoken!)..
Wondering is my grandfather is really a amazing Qigong Master like what my auntie says...
Wondering if my mum is really that vain.. and SLIM!
Witness the birth of my all my cousins...
To help me remember my grandparents house in tampines.. I still love their old house yah.. The tiles are marble, with a big carpet in the center of the living room...
Enough of the 70s,
Let's go back to reality then.
Reality = sleep
Goodnight~
